Hi guys, does anyone have any experience with conjugal law sponsorship. I have been dating my canadian girlfriend for over one year but we have not been living together for four months.. so not long enough to qualify for common law sponsorship.. I have been reading about conjugal sponsorship because I am being forced to leave Canada and return to the UK because my visa has run out, and my girlfriend is a doctor and tied to three more years of residency before she can leave to be with me..

Has anyone got any ideas if this is an effective method or can suggest any other ways she can sponsor me so we an be together.. thank you all for your time

Not to sound crass but get married and apply inland.  Or apply outland and apply for a visa extension.  Conjugal sponsorship is extremely difficult and usually only successful when there is a barrier to marriage or in other extreme circumstances.

I'm pretty sure rjessome is correct. My fiancee and I are in a similar situation (not sure what to qualify for) so we decided to marry this July and file when we get our marriage certificate. I just posted a thread on here about obtaining an Ontario marriage certificate (if that's where you were living) which may be beneficial to you. Unfortunately, I'm new in this process as well! Applying outland is quicker, and you are able to travel. I'm assuming you would file outland in London? If so, you're processing times are looking like 2-8 months. Which is great! Best of luck to you!

I'll echo the above. Conjugal is a very tricky category, if you just got married you would make your life a LOT simpler and would save yourselves a lot of stress.

Conjugal sponsorship is useful for those who can't marry (ie are already married and their country doesn't have divorce, maybe they're a same sex couple, ...) and who can't live together long enough to be common-law partners (immigration barrier).  In theory, you should be able to get approved here if you could demonstrate you are indeed conjugal partners - that means you're in an essence married, just missing the paper. All your affairs must be combined, there has to be strong dependancy on each other, etc. This is very difficult to prove and even when you do prove it, many immigration officers will not approve the application if the option to marry was available but you didn't take it - they see it as a sign you are not committed enough to the relationship and thus obviously aren't conjugal partners.

Seriously, try to avoid it unless there's really no other option.
