confusion on NOC 0213...plz urgent

I would apreciate if anybody could guide me on my case as described below.

In ministerial instruction list (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp ), the occupation most relevant to me is:
 NOC 0213: Computer and Information Systems Managers

Main duties for NOC code 0213 are listed as on web site (http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=0213):
•Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of information systems and electronic data processing (EDP) departments and companies
•Develop and implement policies and procedures for electronic data processing and computer systems operations and development
•Meet with clients to discuss system requirements, specifications, costs and timelines
•Assemble and manage teams of information systems personnel to design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and tele communications software, networks and information systems
•Control the budget and expenditures of the department, company or project
•Recruit and supervise computer analysts, engineers, programmers, technicians and other personnel and oversee their professional development and training.

You see that these duties are generic managerial level duties for Computer and Information Systems profession.These duties are performed both for softwate development and softwate quality assurance.

My specialization in Computer and Information Systems profession is in quality assurance field. I have ten years experience in software quality assurance field. And out of these ten years, four years experience is of managerial level. I am currently working as Software/Information systems quality assurance analyst/manager.

Exact NOC code for Information systems quality assurance analysts is 2171.This code (2171) is listed in “Classified elsewhere” section on description page of NOC code 0213.

I do almost all duties described as main duties for NOC code 0213 in the quality assurance field of Computer and Information Systems.

I assume that I fall in 0213 professional duties. Please comments on if my understanding is correct?

if I am not wrong then I need your expert opinion on what NOC code should I mention in initial application? Whether it should be 0213 0r 2171?

Hi! Ashraf,

It doesn't matter how your position is called.
But it is important to have 0213 duties to be your MAIN duties.
You might have performed other duties too. Well who hasn't?

In supporting letters it should be outlined which one were your main ones.

YOU JUST SHOW 6 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS NOC 2171 AND 4 YEARS AS 0213...  YOU MUST CLAIM YOUR DUTIES MATCH WITH NOC 0213....YOU MUST HAVE CONFIDENCE.....

Thanks for explaining. Just to make it crystal clear: an example:

- Some one worked as in IT Engineer for 2 yrs (NOC 0213)

- then promoted to IT Manager and worked for 3 yrs (NOC0213)

Both under same NOC

Should he claim

1) 5 yrs under current title OR 5 yrs showing titles differntly?
2) Only 3 yrs which he worked as Manager?

0213 and 2171 similar BUT not the same.

2171 is PART of 0213 duties, that is why you see similarities.

In fact in a large company 0213 would have 2171 working under him.

But of you convince the person who is responsible for your reference letter to present, outline your main duties as 0213 then good luck.

I agree with your opion on NOC 0213 and 2171.

Keeping in view opinions that poped up on forum...I plan to declare my 4 Yrs managerial experience under NOC 0213 and rest of the six Yrs experience under NOC 2171.

I hope this makes sense.Your final opinion on this is requested.
