confused re: "addresses where you have lived" IMM 5002 (01-2006) E

I've looked through the guides and in the forums here but it's still not clear. It says to list everywhere you have lived since you were 18.

When I was 17, I traveled to the US as an exchange student, and I turned 18 while there. I was there for 5 months total. I have read that it only counts as "living" there is it's 6 months or more, but then it also says you MUST list every place you have lived in since turning 18. So I'm not sure if I should include this or not and I really don't want this form to be returned because I got it wrong!

Anybody have any advice?

   Hi you need to include everywherwe you lived. The 6 month thing is if you lived in another country for 6 months or more you must supply a police clearance from where you lived.But for the question you ask it wants to know where you been.

Since it was less than 5 months you can leave it out...how long were you in the US after turning 18?

I was only in the US for 2.5 months as an 18 year old.

I'm thinking it's not of any significance but I'm not sure what the guidelines are for this kind of thing. Afraid to leave it out and then get in trouble?

I would just include it to be on the safe side. You could include a note explaining the dates and purpose of your time there if you felt it was necessary but I think it's clear - you were there, so list it. Better to err on the side of caution!

You have to list all your travels and stays outside your home country, even if it is for a short duration. You don't need exactly to give complete postal address. Just mention the town,city,country. But for  inside home country travels/stays, show what is only important ; ex: you stayed in a different town for long period for job or for education or for any other activities...

Please see that it is not easy for every one to remember all the address and dates where stayed during his/her life and usuall no one make a record of it except for the aforesaid reasons.

Maybe I was wrong with my first posting on this matter...

It looks like you are caught between a hard place and a rock..if you do include it..there MIGHT and its very BIG MIGHT that CIC asks you for a Police record from US and if they do depeding on your current situation you will face difficulties in getting one....on the other hand if you dont..and CIC finds out that you were in US for 6 months but did not include it your application might get rejected.... I guess the best is to play it safe include it and then see how it goes...

You have to account for every month, so you won't be able to leave out the time in the U.S. after your 18th birthday (or, depending on your age, any of your time in the U.S.).

Include it - it's the USA, not Yemen. The 6 months thing is for the police check. If you lived, visited, stayed, whatever, in another country for 6 months or longer, you need a police check from that country. So include the USA address in the record of where you lived, but you don't need a US police check.

Hi All,

I am completing this part of the application at the moment and have read this thread with interest.  It has raised a question for me regarding long term travel.  Bit of background first -

I left Australia in September 2006 and traveled for 21 months (during which time I met ma belle Quebecoise)
Longest time in single countries - Canada 7 months, India 5 months, UK 3.5 months

Question - should I split details of months spent travelling?  I not really worried about listing one place where I spent most of a given month (during backpacking times on travels), but in the case of india it would look like being 6 months and give the impression that I need to supply a police clearance? 

I was thinking to just split the month I arrived between the UK and India (flew Dec 15 to Mumbai) and provide copies of my passport pages to show length of time in India) Does this seem too enough? or not enough?   

My question might be splitting hairs but as another poster said it is better to include things than be excluded for missing info.

I'd give the specific dates for India and the UK, so they won't expect police checks.

Mark - Are you saying they expect copies of passport pages for everywhere you've been? My passport has expired since my travels back in 2002 and 2005, I don't even have the old passport anymore. I hope they don't need copies of that because I"m screwed.

I am SO confused re: visiting a friend in London for less than 2 weeks back in 2005.
I mean, I didn't LIVE in London, I visited for a week. So I'm thinking don't include it , but afraid to get in trouble for not saying I entered the UK! Not sure what to do here!

Include everything even trips for a week outside your home country, if CIC finds out, then you will be in troubles....they check everything just be honest and they'll see that you are talking with the truth.
