CO OP work permit and SIN

Hi all , hope you guys are doing good .

my friend is in  Personal Support Worker Program in Sheridan college .

he has A CO OP work permit also , which was issued by the officers at the port entry , so he has 2 letters , 1= study permit , 2= CO OP work permit .


so he wants to apply for SIN number right away , is it possible?

Hi,

1. Yes, you can apply. You can apply for a SIN before/ within 3 days after your Co-op start.
2. You will lose your Co-op work permit, if you intend to use your Co-op work permit as an Off-campus work permit.

SIN number is obtained in few minutes from Service Ontario office. However, sometimes there is a long queue and you have to wait for your turn for up to 2 hrs. Better to go early in the morning and beat the queue.

They issue you the SIN number at the spot (on a paper), and you receive the physical SIN card in 3 weeks at your home.
