Typically it's five days a week (Monday to Friday).

Note that you won't qualify for an off campus work permit until you have completed six months of studies in Canada.

The only place you can work part time before these six months is an on-campus job (a job at the university or college you are attending). However these jobs are usually quite difficult to get and there usually aren't that many of them.

If they are working before they have completed six months of studies, then they are working illegally.

As other mentioned, you get work permit after 6 months. Actually you apply after 6 months, and it takes another 2 months so effectively you get it after 8 months. You need to apply for SIN (actually employers only ask for SIN rather than the permit; you only get SIN if you have a work permit).

Cash jobs (illegal) are available and many people I know are doing it. Salary is usually less (about 8/hr) than the minimum wages (10.25) but people get it. Factories, Small Stores, Gas stations are usual places but you get the job though networking.

In very rare cases, in pg courses where there is a mandatory co-op within first semester, you get an work permit right at the airport. However, this is very very rare.

Thx g.s stud.I have 1 more question n i think you can solve it.-

G.s,I want to go in may intake with a co-op pg course (1 year) but mostly colleges provide internship in may intake, not co-op....So,my question is- is this internship would be better for job after completion of my study?? There is a difference b/w co-op and internship, hope you know this....
Actually many co-op courses are available in sep intake....

I can speak about co-op but have on experience with internship. Sorry, you have to ask somebody else.

Hi,

1. Absolutely most important for an international student in Canada.
2. You will find far better options for Sept 2012 intake. May be you should wait for Sept.
