Hi, I am a Citizen of visa-exempt country.

My husband has entered Canada few days ago and received a Work Permit for 1 year - he is a Long Haul Truck Driver.
I would like to join him and possibly stay for as long as his Work Permit is valid for.

- Open Work Permit : I know that it is impossible to get an Open Work Permit for me on the border because of my husband's profession.
- would it be possible to get an extended visitor visa at the port of Entry if I show all of his documents? (I would not like an idea of applying for visa and waiting long times from where I am now) also I am just worried about my cat, who I will be carrying with me - if they turn me down at port of entry I am stuck with a cat on my hands...

- should I maybe come for 3 months (within my visa-exemption) and show a ticket back and try to extend my visitor visa from inside Canada? Should I mention this to an agent on the border or not?

I am not going to work there abviously if I stay as visitor. All I want to do is be with my husband for the time he has Work Permit in Canada.

I would be gratefull for all your comments. Thanks !

Have a copy of your spouses work permit, CBSA will probably admit you as a visitor with the same expiry of his/her work permit.  Proof of your marriage would be a good idea as well.
