Hello everyone.
My wife and I are in the process of completing her application for spousal sponsorship. My question concerns the documents which she must provide. She was born in a small village 37 years ago, and birth certificates were not issued in that location. Will an explanation regarding the absence of this document suffice? If not, any suggestions on what can be done? She does have a valid Chinese passport and Identity Card.

Thank you for any advice

As our case, i went to local police station where my Hukou is at(or 街道办事处) , got a proove from there(hand writing on a titled letter paper). Content including"Name, birth date, born place, father's name and mother's name" as what the hukou books tells. And then take this to local  notary office to notarize. That's all you need.I suggest you call the local notary office to ask what they require to make the notary.

Well....this is what happened. The local notary will not notarize the police document unless we provide the Hukou of both her father and mother, naming her as a child. Both of her parents are deceased for some time now and these documents have been cancelled. We have been advised to travel to the home town of her parents to try obtain copies. We are in Shenzhen and now will travel to Zhanjiang. In the meantime, does anyone know if this is neccessary? I was hoping an explanation would do, but more than likely that is just wishful thinking.

I would try to get it.
An explanation may be enough. But usually if it is possible to get an official document, they expect you to do it. My husband also does not have a birth certificate - he's Nigerian, and before 1994 it was very uncommon for a Nigerian baby's birth to be registered anywhere. We explained this and attached a copy of his baptismal certificate, an affidavit from his eldest brother about his birth date, and his passport. This was accepted in lieu of a birth certificate in our case, and has never been an issue.

Thanks for the information. We will see if we can get it. It will be a long road trip, but I will do all I can to make sure we have everything we need.

Regards,

In China, every place has different policies, well, that's how i feel, sometimes easy things could be very complicated. if it is really difficult for you to get it,another suggestion is to talk to some local immigrantion agency, they can make anything for you~~

I would caution seeking local immigration agency in China.  Many are crooks and interest only in your money.

Why don't you take a train to Zhanjiang instead?
