i am confused abt one issue also.they say that we have to show them how we met.My engagement was done 3-4 years back to my first cousin. We didnt have any function, only our parents decided it. Now how am I suppose to tell them How we met?

You tell them it was an arranged wedlock by parents. They ask in the application, if the marriage was arranged if yes then who arranged it? I suggest you go through all the  questions in the application first and see if you can answer them all the and provide proofs and evidence to support your answers. Only after that you will be able to make your final decision!

Ok I have a question, and forgive me if I end up offending anyone by the end of this post. This is just tentative guesswork on my side.

So from my limited understanding of the concept of 'only Nikah and no Rukhsati', I believe that the bride's family insist on it (especially if the groom lives abroad), so that (Allah forbid), if kal ke dinn, something goes wrong, they could atleast get the girl married to someone else saying that it was only a Nikah case and nothing happened. Right? If this is the case (of course, other reasons are involved too), but this stance of the bride's side shows a 'lack of trust' in the groom. They are already making provisions for the future if the marriage does not work out.

Now if the two parties involved have room for doubting the other, then why would you expect CHC-ISB to accept the marriage as 100% genuine? To me, this makes sense when the VO sends out objection letters for cases like these.

Just my two cents...

Shamsia, while some families might be reluctant to do rukhsati because of the reason you mentioned, most of the people, both from bride's and the groom's side, prefer to make a nikkah-only arrangement because a consummated marriage makes things much more difficult for the couple if they are living apart, i.e., their wait is much more excruciating; in the absence of head of the family the new bride who barely knows the new family might not be able to handle sensitive matters well, it is an unnatural way to start a life and the time to be enjoyed in honeymoon year is lost never to come back, and if she conceives, the couple has to bear with another painful period of separation. Furthermore, if the nikkah-only arrangement is not acceptable for the CIC, they won't have the provision for the same in the forms they want us to fill, i.e., the question have you had a reception or not. In addition to this, considering our society, even a broken engagement is a big stigma for a girl, then i fail to understand why would a girl's parents agree to give their daughter in nikkah of someone they don't trust?

Agreed 100%
That is my point as well of doing nikah only.
And it was a decision made by my hubby in my case.
Perhaps he knew how cruel CHC-I can be. Cry

I agree with you on this. You have explained well the social and religious connotations of this kind of marriage. As I mentioned before, there are other reasons why people choose this marriage, and trust, or the lack of, is not the sole reason. Personally, I think it makes complete sense to not have the marriage consummated and make it that much more easier for the couple. And also save the girl from the implications of staying with the in-laws.

But I was only trying to look at it from the CIC's point of view. How else would you explain the objection letters received by these couples? There must be something about this marriage that they have deemed it as a red flag?

You have to write them a letter of correction of address and sign it. You can either fax it or mail it to CHC-I. They wouldn't change or correct the mailing address via email. Also, it takes them time to make corrections/change of address. Mine was corrected one month after I sent the letter via TCS.
