Yes, they received my package on 7th march. I hadn't heard anything until this morning an was beginning to worry! Lol! Even though they haven't updated thru website (which still says working on applications received feb 7!) looks like they are into March! I hope u guys here something soon!

Just wanted to check with you - when was your application received? on the 7th of March according to the spreadsheet, but I just want to confirm - that would be awesome, meaning that they have started with March applicants! :-) (i'm in April, so next in line so to speak!).

To Everyone:

I have a question.

Yesterday I received 2 letters from CRA. One was for GST and the other one was for OST. They were asking me to owe some money back to them. It turns out that my accountant notified CRA that I am married and the maritial status is changed on their system. They are saying that I have racked up a certain amount of GST/OST credit from July 2011 to June 2012 when I was not supposed to. The government now wants a certain amount back. Almost $400.

And yes, the only reason I didn't inform them about being "Married" was because I wanted to rack up a good amount of GST/OST. Its good side income every quarter.

I can't afford to pay back $400 to the government. My wife is not even a PR of Canada nor does she have a SIN number. She has not even landed in Canada yet. In the books of CRA, I should not owe anything.

What do you guys think?

Not a laughing matter. Stuff like this grinds my gears. Hard working Canadians pay their taxes and every desi and their mother is taking najaiz benefits for some reason or another saying "chuna lagarahy hain". Be glad they are only asking you for $400 and not $4000. Once you've been notified by Canada Revenue for anything at all, you are on their radar and you can expect an audit at any time. Pay it and pray they dont come after you again. I know someone who has $16000 in benefits seized directly from their bank account in 2011. They were receiving child tax benefits while their family was overseas. Canada Revenue sent them a letter and seized all the funds right out from their account. Every single person receiving najaiz benefits and money from the government should have the same thing happen to them. Its not even halal money.

Nice use of verbs and adjectives gori mem. Btw I am also a taxpayer, however there are certain things I do to benefit myself. There is no harm in it. I am not going to argue a whole lot but I did speak to CRA people and they told me what I have to do in order to avoid paying back that $400. This is just a FYI.

They advised me to send them a letter with my name, address, SIN and DOB. The letter must also have my wife's information and it must state the amout on GST and OST letters. It must also state that my wife is a non resident and has not landed in Canada as of yet. Then I don't have to pay back all that amount.

On top of that, they said that if I financially supported my wife in 2011. I can report that on the same letter and get some money credited.

I was like OMG what a blessing, "aur chuuna lagao inko"....its like "aah bail mujhay maar"...

already ve sent birth certificate and my daughter is canadian by birth. i have no idea what this child declaration is and why they want it.

did u apply for her passport? if yes then the second parent need to give affidavit about same thing....my daughter in pakistan and we apply for her passport from islamabad ,my wife went to passport office in canada to sign that declaration form...

I got a letter from CRA, they want me to pay them back like 120$ because I'm married now. I don't even work, I'm a full time student. I'm so confused...?

How do they even know? I went to change my marital status to 'married' at the DMV and they said no. My husband has to come here, we have to obtain a marriage license in court and then I can officially claim to be married. So Im curious how they have you as 'married' on file.

CRA men are not so bad. My parents were declined Ontario Energy Credits and Property Tax Credits as the evidences sent to them were not in proper shape. I sent CRA the proper documents and they reversed the amount. I called Ontario guys as they sent my parents asking them to submit like 1100 $s. They told me that the amount is reversed after they got the information from Federal tax dept. On top of that they will receive some more credit as the amount declared by the accountant was less than what I submitted.

You have to be careful with accountants too, sometimes they do funny things. In this case he charged less than what he should have. But in the end my parents got what they deserved.

Good for you. I like your way of thinking. You can take the guy out of Pakistan but you cant take Pakistan out of the guy. Ridiculous.

So how about you represent Pakistan in a more positive light rather than being known for tax fraud, freeloading, stealing from the government and cheating. I'm proud to be a Pakistani because it's part of my Muslim identity. True Islam Not the indo-pak culture crap that has us defamed all over the world. So don't say I'm not in touch with my heritage. As for coming to Canada to mooch off facilities, youre wrong on that account too. Ive never lived in Pakistan. I've been here all my life.

And lastly, you can justify your actions with worldly excuses all you want. What excuse do you have for Allah swt for your illbegotten money? You have no right over it. Same goes to all those families that reap child tax benefits when theyre not even in the country for months at a time. And then suddenly the government of Canada sucks because they asked for their stolen $10000 back.
