Dear Members!

I am surprised where is Gosho sahib. He is pioneer of this forum. He may share his experiences about new life at Canada. Can anybody tell me may we bring laptop computer from Pakistan or we may purchase it from Canada. I am planning to book in advance a basement apartment of two beds having 800 $ rent. Is it good idea. Pl. share if anybody has some experience in this regard.

but i am NOT able to decide either i have to start my career in TORONTO, ONTARIO or CALGARY, ALBERTA.

I have 2 children one child is 8 month old and second one is 5 year old. i have to shift to canada with my family.

please answer my query with respect to job, accommodation, child benefit etc.

I am also like you and have no experience in this regard. Some people say we may start at Toronto as it is big city and have ample chances of success.

I'm quoting below Leon's post regarding laptop.

Look at the converter for your laptop.  It may be good for both systems.  Mine says 100-240V and 50-60Hz so it covers everything.  If that is the case, you do not need a new converter, just a fitting plug.  You can buy a travel plug at any airport and many electronics stores.

As for the phone, it's possible that the charger is also good for both systems. If not, you can buy another one.  Since it's a quad band phone, it will work in Canada but you will have a limited selection of providers.  The common providers that use the SIM card system in Canada are Rogers and Fido.  Most other providers are using the CDMA system.

I just would like to share my landing experinece with you

I arrived last week at toronto airport, Immigration officer was very polite and didnt ask single question except address in canada, where they can send PR. they didnt ask any proof of fund or nothing, they welcome to us and then i moved to custom. i collected baggage and went to custom officer.

Guys, if you are planning to ship some item later then make two list of it with expected $ amount, put as much as item you can import alter, becuase as immigrant you have only 1 opportunity to take all item tax free to canada later. so make 2 list of all house hold items.

Make photographs or colour printout of jewelly if you are carrying, Custom officer will stamp on those printouts and then later you can freely move ti and from canada, keep receipt of that jewelry if possible,

it didnt take more then 15 min in immigration counter, however i have to wait for queue and luggage.

After arrival, I went to SIN card and Bank account , and all work was done in minutes
