I am currently in Canada. My study permit expired, I applied to renew it, but the application was lost, and I now I have to reapply, do I change my status to Visitor as I finished my study, however, I want to pursue my PhD in Canada and I am about to apply for admission from one of the Canadian universities because they have certain dates to receive the applications and certain dates to give a reply.

Do I tell the immigration in Vegreville- Alberta that  I am awaiting my ppr from Buffalo and I expect it soon? Will I be granted extension to stay in Canada till my pr issuance ? I can show the immigration that I have enough funds to support myself and my family as long as I am in Canada?
What is the best thing to do?

if youre expecting your PR very soon i would suggest you try to apply for a visitor visa. if you have the funds to show that you can support yourself then it wouldnt be a problem of getting a visitor visa. another option is (just in case CIC will say no to your visitors visa) is that you can try to apply for a US visa and tell them that you are waiting for your PR that is being processed in buffalo and is preparing yourself for any possible interview in bufffalo to get the visa... good luck!
