Hi. I am a PhD student at the University of British Columbia and recently I have decided that I no longer want to continue my studies at UBC. However, I do not want to leave the country because I have met someone that I would like to marry and he lives in CA. I am in CA on a study permit and was wondering if it is possible to change my status from a study permit to a work permit, because by not enrolling in school I have no funding. From what I understand as a student in CA on a study permit I am not allowed to apply for a work permit. Does anyone know of other possible options or other cases similar to mine?
