Dear all.

I became a PR in August 2010. We are classed as 'common-law'. However, in November 2011 I finally proposed to my Canadian spouse.

We're not getting married until next year, but whilst it is on my mind, do I need to inform immigration on this change in our relationship status or should I just wait until we're married and contact them then? I assume they have to update their files regarding my PR status right?

Any help/clarification on this would be great.

Thanks.

Your spouse is Canadian and you already got your PR so you are not expected to notify immigration of anything.

If you had gotten married while your PR application was being processed, you would have notified them as it might have helped your application, for example in case immigration had a problem with your evidence of having lived together for 12+ months.
