I had filed for immigration in Nov-2006. I am B.Sc in Chemistry with 8 yrs. exp. Now, my wife has cleared the IELTS with required bands of 5.5 overall. She has done her B.Ed. with 4 yrs. exp. My immigration agent has informed that the file will now be converted in my wife's name and she will be the Primary applicant now. Is this primary applicant conversion possible? If yes, do I also have to clear the IELTS?

No, you can't change principle applicants.  Eventually you will have to take the IELTS unless english is your mother tongue.

Or you can apply again with your wife as the principal applicant.

Seriously you should consider sacking your immigration agent.
