Hi CIF,

I am sponsoring my Irish boyfriend as my common law later this year. The application paper work is almost finished and I am in the process of compiling letters and emails we have written to each other.

This has made me realize that a lot of our correspondence is rather graphic in nature. What can I say- we were long distance for 7 months!

I have tried to select the least lewd material I have, but some of the dirty stuff will have to be submitted because it is the only solid proof we have of the early days of our realtionship.

So my question is can I submit photocopies of letters and emails with dirty bits blacked out? I am happy to explain why they are blacked out on my application forms, but I would rather not submit them as is if possible.

Any input is appreicated!

you are not qualified as a common law parnter.

Common-law partner
You are a common-law partner—either of the opposite sex or same sex—if:

you have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in a continuous 12-month period that was not interrupted. (You are allowed short absences for business travel or family reasons, however.)
You will need proof that you and your common-law partner have combined your affairs and set up a household together. This can be in the form of:

joint bank accounts or credit cards
joint ownership of a home
joint residential leases
joint rental receipts
joint utilities (electricity, gas, telephone)
joint management of household expenses
proof of joint purchases, especially for household items or
mail addressed to either person or both people at the same address.

I'm assuming they have now cohabited for one year.

It's OK to black out parts of email and letters; just explain why in a cover letter, otherwise they might be suspicious.
