Good day seniors,

I have a serious query about the money we can carry while landing. My husband had applied for PR while he was in the US and we are landing in Canada next week. My husband is back home and we family of 3 including my daughter is travelling together to Canada.

Since he had shown 20,000.00 USD as a bank certificate in the initial application, we are taking about 19,000.00 CAD with us while landing along with the Bank Certificate. Now the question is : we are bound to declare if money( any form) exceeds 10K. Does 10K applies to each immigrant travelling or for all three of us? Can my husband carry 9.5K, I carry 9.5K and not declare; or we should carry money together and declare? Any sort of advices is highly appreciated, and good luck to all who are waiting.

This is really an interesting question. I am really interested in what answers seniors will give to it though it is not applicable to myself personally(as I am single applicant).

In my opinion you should carry funds in a single amount and declare it. My reasons are as follows:

1. For a family of 3 min funds required is approx $17,000. As you will be filling up immigration forms as a family both of you will have to declare funds so whats the use.
2. The amount you bring to Canada is non taxable(i read somewhere-pls correct if wrong). The tax shall be applicable on the interest you earn on this amount.

So your exercise to declare funds differently will not have any particular benefit.

Thanks for the reply. I think we have to declare the money anyway..

Yes you should. There is no harm in declaring the money you or family members have together. There is no benefit if you split and don't declare.

Thanks for the valuable inputs folks..

I have on more question on the board: Are we required to fill IMM544E form during the time of landing? I had collected information that we need Passport with visa, COPR docs, Proof of funds, and other docs such as; degrees/diplomas,Birth-Marriage Certificate but never heard of getting IMM544E form to be filled. But some where in the forum I saw somebody talking about IMME 544E, for ease.

Please guide me if we are suppose to fill such forms. You guys are always helpful on helping others.

God Bless!
