I want to order CAPIS for my child who is going thru immigration process. The file is currently with Local consulate and the passport had been submitted for 6 weeks now. I am just curious to find the status from the CAPIS as the ecas is not updated. I am currently in Canada.

My question is - do I need authorization from my dependent to file CAPIS for her? She is just 2 years and won't be able to authorize and I have an assumtion that I am authorized by default to communicate on behalf of her. But still want to get a confirmation!

Appreciate your time and help!

No, you won't need her authorization to order CAIPS.  She's a minor - you're the parent.  But I honestly think you won't get much information from CAIPS.  You're hoping to find out when the application will be finalized, and CAIPS isn't going to tell you that.  CAIPS really only helps with information when there are complications - I doubt you are having complications with sponsoring a 2 yr old . . . it's just the "normal" waiting that you're going through.  Chances are that you'll be receiving a passport request before you'd ever see the CAIPS notes anyway.
