I want to stay longer then the standard 6 months when I travel to the USA as a visitor. I was told about an L1B form??? I do not want to work there nor do I want to give up my Canadian residence. Simply I need to be there for longer periods of time maybe up to 2 years at a time. Is this possible? Anyone familiar? I have chronic pain and the Toronto climate is a killer for me. I am able to support myself with no problem in either Arizona or Nevada. Someone tell me please this can be done. By the way my doctor reccommededs to stay in the warm climate.

I don't know if L1B is the right visa for you.  Read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-1_visa

L1-B is a working type of visa. The L1-B visa means that your working to a company A in Canada that has a branch office in the USA and they will assign you in the US to work in the same capacity.

The only way you can stay in the US for more than 6 mos. is to have a work in the US.
