Canadian visa/PR

I have applied for canadian permanent residency (PR). The occupation I listed was changed by the time I applied for PR. So I could not get my PR.
I have been a student in USA for the past 5 years.
I am loosing my student status by Dec 2010.
Is there a way that I get a candaian PR.
I also got accepted to certification program in a public canadian university starting from Jan 2011 to Dec 2011.
If I apply for a student visa, is the earlier applied PR going to effect my student visa chances.
Please help.
