Hello.

I'm a Canadian working/living in the US, and have severed my Canadian residency ties last year for tax purposes. Just wondering if I can still have my (future) wife, who is a citizen of other country, apply for a Canadian Permanent Status. Can we/she apply before she joins me here in the US, if its possible? or it will be better if we'll just consider it once she have settled here? Thanks.

Depends on what you mean by "severing my Canadian residency for tax purposes".

If all you mean is that you no longer have the usual ties (home, bank accounts etc) and haven't paid tax in Canada, it doesn't affect your ability to sponsor your spouse for PR, however you will have to prove you intend to re-settle in Canada if she is approved.

If you are only a Permanent Resident then you can not sponsor any one while living outside of Canada. That is a rule of thumb

I'm not entirely sure what you mean either. At any event, if this helps, my husband lived outside of Canada for 12 years (not paying taxes for any of those) and he was able to sponsor me no problem - we just had to provide definite proof that we were moving back. He went back to school so we included the acceptance letter with our application.

Do you intend to move back?

HI!

We were asked to send our passport for visa stamping last month and we were called today to pay for the releasing of our passport I'm just curios why do we have to pay 50 thousand pesos for the release does it mean it has already been stamped??

If you are a Canadian citizen you can sponsor your spouse to be a Canadian PR but you HAVE to prove intent to move to Canada when the application is processed.  As another poster mentioned if you are a PR yourself you MUST be in Canada to sponsor your spouse.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm a naturalized Canadian Citizen but living/working here in the states under TN visa. Since my status is temporary (depending on my work), applying for Canadian PR for my future wife is one of my options just in case I'll lose my status here in the states, and decide to settle again in Canada.
