Applicants for Skilled Worker Canadian Visa Should Hurry Up

According to the latest announcement from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), immigrant workers applying for visas under 29 eligible occupations should consider the cap applied to each category before it is reached.

As of July 1, 2011, a maximum of 10,000 Federal Skilled Worker Visa applications will be considered for processing in the following 12 months. CIC have announced that Canadian visa applicants for the following two occupation categories have reached their cap:

    Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management;
    Professional nurses.

This means that immigrant workers applying under either of these two categories must have an offer of arranged employment in order for their application to be considered.

Only 500 federal skilled worker visas are available for applicants in each eligible occupation who do not have a pre-arranged offer of employment.

The statistics from CIC show that 2, 983 visa applications were received as of October 18, 2011. The following details the number of visa applicants received in each eligible occupation (with code) as of October 18, 2011.

    0631 Restaurant and Food Service Managers : 288 applicants
    0811 Primary Production Managers (except Agriculture) : 24 applicants
    1122 Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management : Cap reached
    1233 Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners : 49 applicants
    2121 Biologists and Related Scientists : 178 applicants
    2151 Architects : 89 applicants
    3111 Specialist Physicians: 143 applicants
    3112 General Practitioners and Family Physicians: 149 applicants
    3113 Dentists : 185 applicants
    3131 Pharmacists: 320 applicants
    3142 Physiotherapists : 40 applicants
    3152 Registered Nurses: Cap reached
    3215 Medical Radiation Technologists: 16 applicants
    3222 Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists: 12 applicants
    3233 Licensed Practical Nurses : 69 applicants
    4151 Psychologists: 19 applicants
    4152 Social Workers: 102 applicants
    6241 Chefs: 23 applicants
    6242 Cooks: 56 applicants
    7215 Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades : 30 applicants
    7216 Contractors and Supervisors, Mechanic Trades : 55 applicants
    7241 Electricians (except Industrial and Power System): 32 applicants
    7242 Industrial Electricians: 24 applicants
    7251 Plumbers : 5 applicants
    7265 Welders and Related Machine Operators: 13 applicants
    7312 Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics: 11 applicants
    7371 Crane Operators : 2 applicants
    7372 Drillers and Blasters-Surface Mining, Quarrying and Construction: 2 applicants
    8222 Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service: 30 applicants
