My father, now deceased, was born in Canada in the early 1900s.  He became a naturalized American citizen in 1948.  I was born in the USA in the late 1950s to him and my American-by-birth mother, also deceased.  How can I find out if I qualify, under the new law, for Canadian citizenship in addition to my American citizenship, which I don't want to give up?  Every place I go online I hit a dead end.  I'm interested because I'm proud of being half-Canadian and also I live very near Canada.  Thank you.

You can try applying for a citizenship certificate directly and see if you get it: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp

You can also if you go to Canada call the CIC call centre and ask them, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp  The number only works from inside Canada.

I am in a similar situation, but don't understand the law. You may have to contact an immigration office--I think that's what I will do.

The OP is probably a Canadian citizen, and should apply for proof of citizenship.
