According to the Henley Visa Global Ranking Index, Canada currently ranks 9th in terms of the number of countries that its citizens can travel to without a visa. As of August, 2010, Canadians could travel to 157 countries without a visa.Canada is currently behind Austria (158), the United States, Norway, and Ireland (159), Belgium, Japan, and Spain (160), France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands (161), Finland (162), Sweden (163), Denmark (164), and the United Kingdom, which currently ranks first with its citizens being able to visit 166 countries without a visa.

Canada is tied with Australia and New Zealand.

For comparison sake, here are the numbers for some of the countries which ranked below Canada:

Country
 # of Places One Can Travel Visa Free

Canada
 157

Hong Kong
 140

Israel
 133

Brazil
 130

Mexico
 120

Guatemala, El Salvador
 105

South Africa
 88

Russia
 83

Ukraine
 64

Taiwan
 60

Saudi Arabia
 57

Philippines
 54

Nigeria
 51

India
 50

Indonesia
 46

Sri Lanka
 43

China
 38

Iran
 34

The ability of Canadians to travel freely as shown in the data is just a reminder of why Canada is considered to be such a strong destination country.

It's also a reminder of how far we have to go in enhancing global mobility.

Got both UK and Spanish passport! So who knows if I can get to more than 166 if I combine both lists of countries! I think with Spanish passport I can go to Equatorial Guinea but not with UK passport.

I wonder which  9countries Canadians cannot go to that British can... of the top of my head, I think some of them are Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Bharat,
After gaining PR u need to take the citizenship of Canada and possess a Canadian passport to avail of this option to visit those countries without a visa.

Don't know about the others, but 2 r definitely wrong in that list - Bahrain & Qatar. An Indian pp holder cannot visit those 2 countries w/out a pre-arranged visa. In fact, in neither of the Middle East (GCC) countries.

I really doubt about Sri Lanka.

They can only travel to Maldives and Singapore without a visa.
