Hi guys, I have an extremely urgent problem that needs your help, please please!!

I am a Indian citizen, I had a Canadian PR. I got DUI last night.

1. In my situation like this, can I still return to Canada on my PR card if I go to other country?

2. Can I still apply for a citizenship after 3 years I live in Canada?

Please please help! Thanks!

(Especially for PMM, I know you are an expert, do you know? Really appreciated!!)

You can still enter on your PR card.  In order to revoke your PR status, it must be a serious crime and they would have to notify you about it and you could appeal.

If you end up getting probation or jail time because of this, then the time you spend on probation or in prison will not count towards your citizenship requirements.

Thanks Leon. This is my first offence, I don't think i will get jail or probation, But they suspend my driver license for one year, does it count to probation.

No. Probation only has to do with the legal system.  You do not need to have a drivers license to get citizenship so it does not matter if you never had one or had one and lost it for a year or forever.

Leon/PMM,

Thanks Leon for the update.

When I am reading the faq inadmissibility for canada, it says
"If you have been convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, you will probably be found criminally inadmissible to Canada."
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/faq-inadmissibility.asp

Can you please let me know whether DUI is inadmissible to canada.

That is for visitors and you are a PR, not a visitor.

Leon,
Many Thanks for the information.

I spoke some lawyers today, even with small criminal record CIC can reject my citizenship and they can revoke my PR card.
I am really really worried right now. Can you please let me know what will be better now. I am thinking to go back to india?

Me thinks the lawyer wants to scare you to get your money.  Even rapists have been allowed to stay in Canada after completing their sentence.  Show that you are working on your drinking problem by attending rehab or AA meetings if not both and let it play out.  They didn't take your PR yet so it is not necessary to go back to India until they do.

Leon,
Thanks for all you answers.

I never ever drink after this incident, forget about DUI. My only issue is my reading is more than twice the limit, it may lead to harsher punishment.

Joining AA and attending meetings regularly looks better for you than quitting drinking by yourself because surely if you are not attending any program, they do not know if you have really stopped drinking or if you are just saying so.

I'm in the sane situation as you .. I passed my test yesterday and got caught sleeping in the car when drunk. Care and control .. What's gonna happen and how did your citizenship process going?!
