Can we get a S.I.N with just the COPR? (No PR Card yet.)

Dear friends,

I landed yesterday. It is raining here in Toronto.  I have some few questions:

1. can i get a SIN with just the COPR and passport? I do not have the PR card yet as it will be mailed in 3 months.  Is it really 3 months?

2.  I heard that FIDO is a good wireless provider here as it gives you unlimited text messages also internationally.  Does anyone tried FIDO? DO they allow new immigrants to get the plan even without credit history yet?

One of our members got the PR card just after 5 weeks.  You can get the SIN with just COPR and passport.  Go to any Service Canada locations in GTA.

I am also using FIDO.  Sure, you can apply one without credit history.

So are you in the FIDO plan? what i meant was, you are in a 2-3 years contract and not prepaid right?

Yes, 3 year contract

I'm with them too [2nd phone] - $56.30/month - pay-as-u-go - 2000 minutes/month - no contract. Lately they r also out with a $35/month plan, called "City Fido".

Thanks! Tomorrow I will get my SIN and will open bank account and will get the FIDO. I hope I could get good deal with FIDO.
