Author Topic: Can my spouse's child go to school while his mother awaits PR status  (Read 462 times)

If my fiancée and her child were here on a TRV and we married and she then applied for PR status, would her son be allowed to go to school here, and if so, would we need to pay international fees? Remember, we would now be married awating PR status for my wife.

You should discuss this with the school district where you live.

PR=Permanent resident - TFW=temporary foreign worker
FSW=federal skilled worker - QSW=Quebec skilled worker
AEO=arranged employment offer - LMO=labour market opinion
CEC=Canadian experience class - PNP=provincial nominee program

I can only tell you what happened to me in Vancouver, BC. The answer is NO. The school board demanded a work visa, study visa or PR before they would allow my son to school. My partner, being the step dad, had no bearing on the outcome.

I understand that the age of the child may also have a bearing on the decision. As Leon said, check the school district.

I Have the same situation .... i received my OWP already and currently looking for a job but the SBD didn't allow my daughter to study? but the immigration officer told me she can study.. I am from richmond. If anyone can help me too thank you!

If you have OWP, apply for a study permit for your child.

If i am getting a study permit for her, i think i am going to pay the tuition fee? am i right?
