Hello everyone,

I got my PR & landed in Canada in Sept 7th. My wife has received her PR card but I have not yet received it.

I have my landing document with me.

Can we travel to India & return back to Canada using our Landing document as I dont have a PR card? Would this create any issue when i re-enter Canada?

Please confirm

Hi,

Congratulations for a safe landing. You better wait for your PR card to arrive before travelling.

Cheers

If you have an Indian passport, you will need a travel document to be able to return because the airline will not let you board the plane without a PR card or a visa as they do not want to be blamed for bringing people to Canada without the proper paperwork.  You can get a travel document at the Canadian embassy in ND.

There is nothing you need to do in Canada before leaving, just before coming back.

What don't you try this ? Go to India and they will send you the PR card through secured means ?

Well (what the above poster said), you goto India and have some friend/Family to courier your PR card/s to you in India..

Also try contacting the office to see what is the reason for delay...There is a good thread (somewhere) here which explained in details about PR card contact etc.

Thanks everyone.

I am in Canada at present. I have my project going on here. In case of any family emergency, i may need to travel to India maybe for couple of weeks, & return back to Candada to continue with my project.
I have enquired with CIC, they said they have put an inquiry for my case, & I should get my PR by 3rd week of December.

Now, what if I have a family emergency & need to go to India (for couple of weeks) & come back to Canada?
My Proof of Landing doc would not help here?

You could enter Canada with your landing papers only but the problem is, if you are Indian, you need a visa to travel to Canada and the airline will probably not let you board the plane without a visa, PR card or travel document.  That is mainly why you need one.

If you go to India on a family emergency, you should either not buy the ticket back and apply for a travel document as soon as you get there, only buy the ticket back once you have it as in some countries it actually takes 2 weeks or longer to process.  Or another way, stay in India until your PR card arrives in Canada and then have it sent to you by courier or express mail.

Well..confusing situation though but procedure is already in place for such scenarios. U need to apply for PRTD from local canadian embassy in India based on your COPR. U will get it but may take some time. Do the inquiry first for procedure before travelling.

U will be lucky enough if your PR arrives in your absence. Do arrange for delivery to India to avoid PRTD procedure

Nowadays other than the Vancouver office , the Toronto office has started sending letters with people who have a photo problem with the option of coming in person or sending photos by mail. Its a good news for those with tiny tots who are currently out of Canada as it is really difficult to fly back unorganised just to hand over photos.
