I am applying for PR through common-law.  I have the following question.

Do we need original letters signed by people substantiating our common-law relationship? Or can they simply sign it and fax it to us... where we will then print it and send it in with our PR application for proof that we lived together.

Try to have a combination of both and have some letters signed and mailed to you. Also you should include notarized declarations from at least 2 people that know about your relationship. I hope this helps!

Agreed. Personally I would try to get them all original. Stamps are that expensive, mate. Tongue We included about 8 letters, plus 4 notarized.

I had two original and notarized letters and 8 or so emails of support that I just printed out.

The job of the notary is to verify the identity of the person signing the letter; so it is your mom who needs to get it notarized. Mom should sign the letter in front of the notary and provide proof of her identity. AFTER it is notarized, then she can send it to you.
