Can i go to canada to work as a contractor?

Hi,
I live and work in US on h1. I want to go to work in Canada. There's a big staffing form in US and canada. They can find a me a job easily as a contractor as Programmer Analyst in Canada.
Can anyone please tell me what are the steps?

It does not look to me like you would fit the category for self-employed, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/business/self-employed/index.asp

If you fit any of these jobs: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/special-tech.asp you could get a temporary work permit without needing an LMO and apply for PR later.

Otherwise it's just apply for FSW and get PR.

I dont want to go as self employed. I want to go on temporary work permit to work for a company on short or long term contract base(not fulltime). If a company hire me as a Programmer Analyst for lets say 12 months. How can i go there? What do I need? What is LMO? When do i go for visa?

I've seen the link u gave,,,I saw the categories. I fit on one of those programming language skils, but moreover, i work in latest technology. And the ones in the list on site seem to be really old.(for an example, It says on site C, C++ and Visual Basic those are really old, but now i work on C# and some other latest) Am I still eligible? They consider only skills they mentioned or they look beyond?

Do you have an employer lined up who wants to hire you?  If you do, here are the steps the employer must take: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/temp_workers.shtml  If your employer believes that the job is one of those that are exempt from LMO it says you can just apply for a work permit but have him ask HRSDC anyway if you need something else.  If you are visit visa exempt to Canada, you can apply for a work permit at the border.  If you are not, you can apply at an embassy.

Lets say if my employer offers my job which doesnt need LMO, confirmed by HRSDC.
Do i just need to go to apply to work permit to canada embassy? Can i go in personal? they make decision same day? or I must send the documents and they will send passport back?


by the way, i've already applied for PR under FSW without AOE. will it affect anything? I jus want to get there and start working before PR comes.

I do not know how long it takes to get a work permit in your embassy.  They might first need to approve that the job is exempt from needing an LMO.

You are ok to apply for a temporary work permit even though you have applied for PR.  If they ask you if you will leave at the end of your work permit, you will say that if you get PR first, you will stay, if not, you will accept that and leave.
