khaka, to be eligible to sponsor you must have shown how you will support your family once the PR is granted. What has changed, you were either employed or show support from family members. As others have stated there is lots of work available which will pay a lot more than welfare. You husband may have to stay home to babysit while you go back to work and as others have suggested, stagger your jobs for child care. The concern raised by many is the "stigma" that shows new immigrants only come to CA to collect welfare, medical assistance and so forth. The 95% that come and work at mediocore jobs until a better one comes along will not accept that this "stigma" is a fair representation of them. So do as the 95% have done, get off the couch and live up to your comittment, both of you!

Sorry, ZERO sympathy!!

Unless you have entered Canada because your life is in danger in your home country, you are NOT entitled to rape the welfare system.  If you can't afford to support your spouse in Canada, then please don't be a sponsor.

I recently bumped into a Moldovan couple who somehow managed to immigrate to Canada under a skilled category ( computer programmer ).  He could barely speak a word of english.  How he managed to qualify under the point system is beyond me.  The first thing he did was spend his only cash and bought himself a car.  After which, he applied for welfare for his wife, baby, and self.  I couldn't believe that he actually thought this was ok.  In fact, he was proud of himself.

There is a lot of abuse in the immigration system and those of you who are sincere and well-intentioned pay a big price for this abuse.

Agreed. You know how much I paid in taxes last year? 60K! I've paid my fair share. I don't mind if this money goes to help some people who are truly in need. But people like that who come here to rape the welfare system should be deported IMO. We can't take care of the world.

Mrs P, I would like to think it was a misprint. Those of us that know you realize you couldn't visit your husband for over a year while you were working to save $ for when he arrived in CA all the while caring for your little one. We also know that Mr P went to work immediately to make a better life for his family just as most have done. My Mrs has done the same thing, menial tasks but makes her feel proud.

Grin MUST HAVE BEEN A MISPRINT! Lol anywayyyy, I used to receive a drug card and top up from welfare WHEN I WAS SINGLE, WORKING and ON MY OWN WITH 4 KIDS. I am not afraid to speak the truth. When my hubby proposed to me, I cut that off and struggled it out ON MY OWN NO ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER. I have not receive benefits of any kind in 3 years, been married for 2. I know what my obligations are and wat the right thing to do. Last yr alone I only made 7k, I don't have drug or dental and we were ok. Why the hell is my husband coming here for us to go on welfare to get a few bucks? I am still alone, still have FOUR SMALL KIDS, and worK TWO jobs to make ends meet. Kmrt!  I'm so done with this foolishness, ppl can't handle the truth. Welfare should only b used as a stepping stone or assistance. Which is wat I used to have it for. I pay taxes into that system since I have never stopped working thru all my kids births. Get a life!
