Hi All,

I applied to sponsor my parents in 2005, but still " IN PROCESS"!!! In the meantime, they have done their medical in June 2010 and were asked to respond further to the "FAIRNESS LETTER". That is also done in Dec. 2010, nothing happened till then. As you know the medical is valid for one year only. If they don't decide by June 2011, they will be due for another medical.
I am getting very frustrated. Do you think if I follow up with them via email, that can affect their decision? You know what I mean. But my parents are also becoming impatience.
Any thought!!!!!!!!

Thanks a bunch.

Hi PDG, I understand your feelings and sorry to say that unfortunately the "parents sponsoring and Immigration" are slowed down globally.
It is not only the situation in your case. There are thousands of applicants in different regions waiting for the final decision and visa.
However, there is no harm in sending an inquiry to know that status of their application. It will not delay the process by doing so itself. Go ahead.

The OP's parent(s) failed the medical, that is why they were sent the fairness letter as they either have a condition that will "cause excessive demand" or is "is a danger to public health or safety" This gives the sponsor the opportunity to prove what arrangements that will be made so that the parent(s) medical costs don't exceed the average of about $5400 per year.  If the arrangements are satisfactory or the OP's parents Doctors information shows that they won't be a burden, then the visa will be issued.  Otherwise there will be a refusal.  If there is a refusal, then the OP will have the right to appeal to the IAD.  It is pointless for the parents to have another medical until a decision is reached.

Personally, I think Canada is more than fair. When someone fails a medical, could cause excessive demand, instead of just a refusal, Canada allows people to explain further and prove more.

How anyone could possibly expect better treatment is beyond me. Sometimes, I feel that too many people see immigrating to Canada as a right rather than a privilege.

Maybe it is just me....... Wink

It is not just you angelbrat, there is no right to immigrate to Canada, nor should there be.

Like you, I believe that the "fairness letter" is far better than a flat out rejection.

I agree too - I am a family physician in Alberta, and I have a LOT of immigrant patients. It bugs me no end that they come to Canada for 181 days of the year to be eligible for medical care, do ALL their physicals, labwork, X-rays, procedures, etc. while here to take advantage of our system, then bugger off to their "home country" for the rest of the year!!!! It happens so much its ridiculous.

Canada is a great country and welcoming to many many people, but it really bothers me to know my tax dollars are going to support these people who are only using us!! And then when they are in their "home" country and there is a political upheaval, they cry that the Canadian government should come and provide them with free flights to come back home.

Sorry for the rant, but I see so much of this in my practice it gets frustrating  Angry  And apologies to PDG - I'm sure this isn't the situation in your parents case  Smiley

I totally agree with you Kaycee!
My husband works with a chinese lady who has relatives that are canadian citizens but live in china and only come to canada for  healthcare. I find this so frustrating, and totally unacceptable!

You should have seen what it was like before JK was in the job.  NOTHING was changed for a very long time and the backlog was ridiculous.  In comparison with other recent ministers of CIC, I actually like JK.  I don't agree with him all the time but at least he is doing SOMETHING.
