Hi to eveybody i need your advice i still have 10 more months to finish the live in caregiver program, i'm jobless for 3 months now since my employer passed away and being a male live in caregiver takes a lot of efforts and perseverance to find a job but last week  i found an employer that is ready to hire and sponsor me but my problem is i am not working as a live in caregiver but as a nanny for there 16years old teenager son,i am confused can a male caregiver like me be able to get a new working permit to work as a nanny? because i never heard of this before that a nanny can be a male also .Do you think that my prospect employer will be granted LMO because there son is already 16 years old? again i never heard such of this age but they said there son is still minor and they need somebody to look after him while they're working and coming home late at night  and the ministry of labor can still give them LMO, i am confused and have doubts about it, i don't want to waste my time working for them if only i know that they can't  give me a working permit. i was asking everybody including my caregiver friends but nobody can give me an exact answer to my inquiry.i hope in this forum i may find the right answer. thank you so much for any advice that i may receive in this forum.

Kuya Dhoy:
A male caregiver can be a nanny as well as long as its live in, you are still under the program. The problem with your new employer, their son is already 16 years old. Im sure Service Canada will not approve the LMO unless he is handicapped or disabled that needs care. I know its hard for a male caregiver to look for an employer but with patience and prayers, you can have it. Widened all your options-disabled, elderly, handicapped. Wish you luck my friend!

  @  Bambiegirl,

No the teenager son is physically and mentally okey the parents only needs that there would be an adult supervision to watch him as the parents are coming home always at night  do you have any idea what is the exact or maximum age of minors that can still be in need of a nanny? i have tried hard enough looking for Elderly, handicapped and disabled care but seems the employers always prefer a female live in caregiver.

 @ Kuya,

I think there was a post in this forum before but i am not sure if this is the right thread, that a certain caregiver was also having the same problem with you but if i may recall 1 of the oldies of this forum give her the right answer might be JOBSEEKER or PMM  ,in my opinion as what i have read in that post i think 16 years old is still minor and your employer is still eligible to apply for LMO.better pm jobseeker or pmm they know more than all of us here.

Try to call Service Canada.....this is from their website.
Child: For each child (under 18) – long-form birth certificate or official adoption documents or medical doctor's note confirming the pregnancy and due date of the child. The parents must submit a long form birth certificate after the child's birth. Failure to do so may result in a refusal by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to issue a work permit. If these are not available, any other official document issued by a government authority demonstrating the child to parent relationship (e.g. original birth certificate for children born abroad translated into English or French).

If the employer can afford and can justify hiring you as their live in nanny (big brother), and they have had nannies before (that it is not the first time they are hiring a nanny), then why not. It is always how the employer will show the need (birth certificate needed, as has already been posted) and probably it is a good thing because a male influence for a growing up teen age boy won't be too bad.

Kuya Dhoy,

I guess the posting that fiesta_ class read in this forum belongs to me, when i was still at the LIC program i was working for a religous jewish family with a physically and mentally normal 15 years old teenage boy, (the reason? ) they can't hire female nanny because of there religous belief my job was to look after the boy and be an adult guardian  because his parents managed there business and coming home late at night, in your case you are about to take care of a 16y.o. boy which is very okey because it is still considered as a minor, don't worry we have almost exactly the same situation before  and NOW i'm  already  finished the LIC program last Feb.2010 received my OWP 9 months ago and enjoying my new job as a Chef.
Good Luck KUYA DHOY !
