Can a friend sponser me?

I was wondering if my friend who will be living in Canada from march, who will become an immigrate.  whether they will be able to sponser me. He will be living with his wife, permanently in Canada, and she will be working as a Nurse.

Also my dad, has business colleagues who work and live in Canada as canadian residents, can they sponser me at all.. as if so how?

i've heard that its relatives only, would appreciate your help
