Protected classes are the different levels at which things are classified, based on how sensitive the information is that it contains. It pertains mainly to had that information can be transmitted. Protected A is the lowest class and basically contains minimal or no sensitive information at all. Like low level departmental memos that can be transmitted via e-mails or fax. It doesnt necesarily have to be locked up. B is the next level, more sensitive personal information. Cant usually be e-mailed but sometimes can be faxed and well C is the highest, most sensitive level. Not faxed, not emailed. Very strict other rules too. Mostly national security and defense but not always limited to that.

Actually, the Protected classes are NOT regarding National Security. They only relate to sensitive documents that may result in harm to an individual or company.

For national security, the equivalents are Confidential, Secret and Top Secret, though this has fallen out of favour with the advent of compartmentalised security.

Probably just a change of stationery.

A lot of forms have "PROTECTED WHEN COMPLETED" on them.

It really isn't anything to worry about -- it's just saying that they shouldn't be sent to the local press (though sometimes that isn't necessarily avoided)
