If you are UK and going through Bunac, you will get a year.  If you are from the US, you will only get 6 months.  In order to get a work permit, you will need to find an employer who will apply for your labour market option.  In order to find an employer who will do that, it can help open some doors if you go on Bunac first so you can start working for them while they decide if you are worth applying for.

If you qualify to apply for your immigration right now, you can do that.
