Just Sharing Notice on Buffalo Website http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/imm/contact-contactez.aspxIMPORTANT NOTICE: We have recently installed a new computer system in all US offices. As a result, applications are taking longer than usual to process. If you wish to apply for a temporary resident visa, work permit or study permit, we encourage you to submit your application by mail and to ensure that you fill in and validate the forms found on our website . We recommend that you apply at least 3 months in advance of your planned travel. Thank you for your understanding. The Visa Section of the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo will be closed to all walk-in temporary resident service from Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 10 2011. This closure is necessary to enable us to deal with an unprecedentedly large inventory of mail-in applications that have pushed our processing times for such applications to record lengths. Our goal is to use this time to eliminate this backlog completely. We will still be accepting mail-in applications during that time. We will also continue to provide service to persons appearing to collect their Permanent Resident Visas on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and persons whose Permanent Resident interviews are scheduled for that week in Buffalo. The Canadian visa offices in New York, Washington, Detroit, Seattle and Los Angeles will maintain their regular walk-in service during this time. Temporary Resident service includes applications for Temporary Resident Visas, Work Permits, Study Permits, Permanent Resident Travel Documents, Authorization to Return to Canada, Applications for Criminal Rehabilitation and Temporary Resident Permits.

Honestly... I am not to sure it only applies to Temporary applicants only. I thing what is says is that they will close walk-ins for temporary applicants only (which is really the only one that is able to do walk-ins). The only services that are remaining open is the interviews and visa stamping. I have read this several times and all they are saying is that if you are applying for a temporary visa you will need to mail it. You cannot apply through Buffalo for Permanent anyways. They say that they will reduce backlog and don't specify wich.... Specialy if you visit the link they are separate paragraphs the one addresing temporary applicants and the news about reducing backlog. I will wait and see what happens.... What do you guys understand?

well ... this is big news ...
i doubt it affects only temporary apps even though the notice says so ... cz after all a VO has limited numbers of employees if there is huge backlog for temp. apps they would use most of their employees for temp handling and as a result pr apps would slow down as well
so i think it might have slowed down our cases indirectly

To me, they are like saying they are closed for walk-ins for Temp Visa applicants, but they will use that time to process their backlog, which i think applies to us too. after all, the officers who look at our files are also visa officers.
anything they are doing to reduce their backlog is good news, at least we know the Buffalo ppl know they are being looked at and that they slowness is the attention now. Good that they realize they need to do something to catch up with other offices in the world too.
what do you guys think?

1. the warning note stating installation of new computer system is generic, so it applies to all. 2. Walk ins are closed only for Temporary resident applicants not for PR 3. the back log applications point to temporary resident applications and not pr.
