I was an August-2009 applicant and my file got transferred to Detroit in Oct-2011.
I waited for more than 2 years just to get some attention on my case.
So here is my guess !!
Files applied after June 2008 and before June 2010 are processed on priority and are transferred to local offices close to where applicant lives ! Mine got transferred to Detroit and my friend's got to LA.
What I do not understand it, why Buffalo still holds some !
My two cents !!!

I agree with you, I think files are transferred to local offices close to where the applicant lives. Hopefully my turn will come, I probably have another year before getting my visa, it has now been 19 months. My application is still in Buffalo, although many after my timeline have been transferred to other VOs, I don't know what that means. What do you think of this new trend from Detroit, they have recently been asking applicants for new verifiable references, tax records, bank statements, etc. Seems strange to me, because the request for these docs comes with the request for the applicant to go do their medicals. Why ask applicants to go spend several hundred dollars, if their applications are still pending these new documents they requested?? There is no logic to this process... Cam |

Detroit is actually a little unique and peculiar I would say.
They ask for a ton of documents along with medicals which would mean no sense to us, still makes sense to them. But, once they process our application they are probably the "fastest" VO, I have ever seen.
When I went in-person to Detroit office, I got a chance to meet an Immigration officer (may be the one who processed my application). He was crisp, clear and an friendly.
I would request you to be a little more patient and wait, because we have no other option !! I certainly could understand how you feel, bcos I was sailing on the same boat as you do now !

Good News and hope for all waiting to get the same news: I got request for passport/landing fee via email this morning...  . I am happy and pray that you all get yours very soon. My case is processed by NY office. Can I go and get the passports stamped myself. Do i need an appointment to do that. Oh yeah. Thank you all so much for all your help, comments, information, hope and above all your presence around, as that helped a lot in waiting for this process all the way through Rehman |

You can go in-person, no appointment is needed. take the required documentation.

In my case, I sent them an e-mail, they gave me permission letter (e-mail) within 24 hours. This permission letter was sort of gate pass to be used at security. Good News and hope for all waiting to get the same news: I got request for passport/landing fee via email this morning... . I am happy and pray that you all get yours very soon. On your PPR letter, it should say that you can submit your passports in-person or by mail. If it does, you can go in-person without an appointment !

Nope. Send them a mail and they will give you permission asking you to submit your PP between 0800-1030 and collect it between 1300-1430 on the same day. It does not say anything about in-person stamping. Does that mean there is only one option, to mail it?

Hi Guys,
I received a letter from Detroit visa office last week. Had a few questions for seniors -
1. Got a letter from the canadian office Detroit. They requested the right to permanent residence fee USD 490. I have applied for me and my wife for canadian PR. My question is i have to submit just USD 490 or USD 980 ?
2. Does any one know how long it takes to get FBI clearance in the US ? If yes what is the best way to get it done ?
3. How long does it take to get the PCC from the Indian embassy at Washington DC ?
4. How should i pay the fee to the visa office by a check or by credit card ?
5. Once i receive the PCC's do i have to send them to the Detroit office address or to the address where the medicals have been requested to be sent ?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Answers!
1) it is 490 X no of persons on the application
2) It is usually 6-8 weeks
3) PCC is tricky. If you have the "Passport-Verification-date" updated, you get the PCC on the same day. If not, you will get it in several weeks.
4)Cashier's check or money Order preferred.
5) PCC has to go to Detroit office. ONLY medical results are sent to Ottawa (DMP sends it directly), you dont have to do anything about your medical results.

I got my medical request and along with it they have requested for FBI and PCC from India.
Any idea how much time FBI is taking these days and what is the process for Indian PCC. I have 90 days to submit these docs

FBI takes 6-8 weeks.
Indian PCC is quite simple. Go to a passport office and fill out the misc form and pay the fees. you will get PCC on the same day!
