Are you planning to just wait for the GCMS Notes or contact your MP sooner?

Hi old timers Smiley,

I wish your waiting times are coming to an end soon! I've got a question related to a friend's FSW application: Her file go transferred to LA in April 2012. In June, she did her medicals. Her ecas status changed to 'Medicals received' a week later. I was wondering how long it could take for the passport request -- the window time she has to wait is no more than three months from today. Does the LA office delay PPR's for more than 4 months, on average, based on your experiences?

Cheers!

FSW is totally different category compared to PNP, so any predictions made will be just based on assumptions. I would recommend asking it in the FSW forum and she can also request GCMS Notes for further information.

Nope.. it doesnt delay the application. GCMS was first called CAIPS, when people used to request that the visa officer had to take out the physical file and make copies of it, thus, delaying the process..

With GCMS, all it is print screen of your current electronic file. Therefore, it does not delay the processing of your file.

Please let me know where it says that it delays the application.

Sorry, I do not know where I saw that statement.
In my opinion, I do not see the difference between contacting the VO and ordering GCMS. Both require the officer to look at your file and it does not matter if physically or electronically, but there is an effort and time consumption in both cases..GCMS may be more, because they have to provide you with a detailed information. The proof is that people who are ordering the notes are still waiting for their PR even if it is over their processing time except for those who have to submit additional documents.
Best wishes..

if my understanding is correct on this terms... FOSS/CAIPS and GCMS are different things... the GCMS notes is something printed to you by the information/privacy team who works outside the immigration process or visa officers...if you ask for it they will run and send you the PDF back...i dont see any delays caused to your process...but the CAIPS/FOSS is more detailed info on your processing which will require taking your paper file out and take notes manually and send it to you...ordering that will for sure delay the process...as its not like they go take your file update details and put it back...it goes through a process where request to take your file  is put, that request is processed and they get the details on your file and then put a request back to send them to the  storage...all this can take time and during that time if your VO looks up for your file it will be not available which might cause a delay..as all this are senstive data...it has to go through many steps of secured process to get your file out from storage. This is my understanding i might be wrong too... so its good to always apply for GCMS rather than doing FOSS/CAIPS

Ok, GCMS is different from CAIPS. Now we use following doc to file GCMS request (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563E.pdf) plus one authorization form if not in Canada. Question is, what form to use if you want to apply CAIPS? Same IMM5563E form? if same form to be used, how you can differentiate the which service you request?

when i ordered i put things in electronic file... any check on physical file might delay the process...when i had submitted the frm was little different...it was asking for FOSS etc.. please go with Electronic file only....that is the generic overview of your file...if you want to drill down to individual things like security/medical etc you go for physical which will give more details on the process...electornic format will just give you status overview..not the reason  or step your file in..say if security initiated tat will be there in electornic file request...but if there is a issue in that missing doc etc will be available by requesting physical file...again this my understanding..i might not be correct too..

CAIPS and FOSS are computer system being used by CIC. The difference between the two are: if your application is processed overseas, then they have to select CAIPS because that is the system that visa offices outside CANADA is using , while FOSS is the system being used within Canada, hence if your application is being processed in Ottawa, then they would use this system.

Quoted from: http://www.caipsnotes.com

The CAIPS computer system has been superseded by a new applicant tracking system called GCMS (Global Case Management System).
FOSS is the computer system historically used by CIC offices in Canada to track all immigration-related information, but like the CAIPS system is being superceded by GCMS.

GCMS is a newer computer system that CIC are rolling out across their offices. Depending where your application is being processed, we could request (and/or immigration officer) either CAIPS/GCMS files or FOSS/GCMS files.
