I have been reading on what I need to know about settling in Canada and I came across this form:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/b4-eng.pdf

Is this really necessary? It is said in the blog that I need it to bring my properties (whether with me during my landing or on a later date) duty- free.

Thanks.

It's required when you ship your personal belongings (such as jewelries, old furniture and clothing) duty free to Canada.  But this does not include your real properties at home.

Hi,

You have to list in B4 forms and get it stamped by CBSA while landing, all your movable properties if any, you are intending to ship to Canada for settlement purpose (means not for trade),. That does not include any immovable properties in your home country or any where else. Simplified - all your  house hold personal effects for own (including family) use. Any items not included in the B4 form can be taxed.
