If your score is the same or higher than the pass mark, then you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.

If your score is lower than the pass mark, you are not likely to qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. We recommend that you do not apply at this time.

However, you can still apply if you believe other factors would show that you are able to establish yourself in Canada and support your dependants. Send a detailed letter with your application explaining why you think you are able to become economically established in Canada. Include any documents that support your claim.

Principal applicant

If you are married or living with a common-law partner, either you or your spouse can apply as the principal applicant. Use the self-assessment test to help you determine which person is likely to earn the most points. That person should apply as the principal applicant. The other person would be considered as a dependant in the application.

Note: A common-law partner is a person who has lived with you in a conjugal relationship for at least one year. Common-law partner refers to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples.

Skilled workers and professionals: Who can apply

Skilled workers are people who are selected as permanent residents based on their ability to become economically established in Canada.

Federal skilled worker applications are assessed for eligibility according to the criteria set out below.

For your application to be eligible for processing, you must:
•include the results of your official language proficiency test, AND
• have a valid offer of arranged employment, OR
•have one year of continuous full-time paid work experience in at least one of the occupations listed here.

Work experience minimum requirements

If your application is eligible for processing, it will then be assessed against minimum requirements.

Your work experience must be:
• for at least one year, continuous, and paid (full-time or the equivalent in part-time), AND
• Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) list, AND
• within the last 10 years.

 If you meet the above minimum requirements, your application will be processed according to the six selection factors in the skilled worker points grid , which are:
•your education
•your abilities in English and/or French, Canada's two official languages
•your work experience
•your age
•whether you have arranged employment in Canada, and
•your adaptability.

You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada.

Note: If you are applying under one of the 29 eligible occupations, as of July 1, 2011, a maximum of 10,000 federal skilled worker applications will be considered for processing in the following 12 months. Within the 10,000 cap, a maximum of 500 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing each year.
 
 These limits do not apply to applications with an offer of arranged employment.

If you are not sure if you should apply as a skilled worker, you can:
•use the eligibility tool to get an idea of whether your application would be eligible for processing, then
•try a self-assessment test to see if you might earn enough points to qualify.

There are many ways to immigrate to Canada. If you don't meet the criteria to apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you may qualify under another category. Learn more about your options.

Well if the instructions website was updated it means that any application received tomorrow under new CAP will be valid using the old point system. But as always "For the unique purpose of calculating the caps, the cap year will begin on July 1, 2011 and end on June 30, 2012, unless otherwise indicated in a future Ministerial Instruction. Subsequent years will be calculated from July 1st to June 30th, unless otherwise indicated in a future Ministerial Instruction. "

The Eligibility Tool for checking eligibility for immigrating as FSW still shows the old caps.. when I tried NOC number 1122.. they say the cap is full. Does this mean that the changes are still being made and we should wait it out a bit for the rest of the changes to appear ..?

OO I read on the CIC website now that


Applications received toward the overall cap: 0 of 10,000 as of July 1, 2011, so the caps are all 0 for all occupations as of now..

But it also states, On July 1, 2011, the eligibility criteria for Federal Skilled Worker applicants changed.

What is this change??

Yes you are lucky. You will be among first people whose application reaches there and there is no change in point system so you are allright......
