Hi all

Checklist asks for birth certificates. Are these compulsory for principal applicant and spouse. will the passport copy not be considered as a proof of date of birth.can the application get rejected without the birth certificates.
Im an Indian applying with London VO .

Do i need to write an explanation regarding the non -submission of birth certificate and that the passport may be considered as proof of date of birth.

No, a passport is not proof of birth.  Yes it can get rejected without proof of birth.

Place yours high school certificates and as well as self written explanation stating your name, Fathers name place of birth etc. that why dont you have the originals .....that will suffice IMO.....

If u are VO is NDVO, it should be fine without a BC, but give a proper explanation and submit ur Secondary & higher secondary certificates with ur DOB and parent name. These must be notarized.

I did this and it was accepted, although I still didn't got my PR yet but anyway NDVO didn't asked for the original BC and at this stage I don't thing they will asking for one!

Every month, Attorney David Cohen will answer a few general Canadian immigration questions submitted by our readers. Here are this month's questions and answers:
Is a birth certificate mandatory for immigration?
While a birth certificate is a preferred method of identification, there are other optional methods depending on your home country if it is not possible to get a birth certificate.
Documentation proving birth must be consistent with what is issued in your country. For example, a secondary leaving certificate, or a national identification card, sometimes in conjunction with a sworn affidavit of your place and time of birth, can be acceptable.
All valid documentation must contain your name, your date of birth, and at least one of your parent's name
