I understand a step sister is not a blood relative.  She would be the child who comes into your family through the marriage of your parent with her parent.  A half sister would be related through blood of either your mother or father.  A sister would be related through the blood of both your parents.
I am not an expert, but I would think, once your have a file number, a letter explaining your error would be a good idea.  It seems they are strict about proving close relationships should your half sister wish to come to Canada in the future.

As you are already landed you don't need to worry about the mentioned mistake. But possibly there can be a querry  about it in future in case you apply for a sponsorship for  her in the family class category.
