A new legislation is being passed by the Canadian government. As per this legislation the fake immigration consultants operating from India would be removed from business. These ghost consultants dupe people from India who have high hopes of immigration to Canada. According to Jason Kenney, the Immigration Minister for Canada, this legislation has been brought about for the crack down of crooks and has received the final approval in the House of Commons.

The minister also said that in the greed for more personal gain, these people have shown a disregard towards the Canadian immigration rules and have evaded many people of their hard earned money. These consultants are a menace and are a big threat to the fairness and integrity of the immigration system apart from their victims. Such people are the reason for the slow rate at which the immigration system functions.

With the new act in place, it would be deemed illegal for the unauthorized immigrant agents to cater to services pertaining to immigration. The also caters to any form of advice or service even before the application has been submitted. The act would also provide the minister with the authority to depute a specific body to govern the immigration consultants. More so, he could authorize the Governor in Council to frame rules which could further raise the oversight of this body by the government.

The ghost immigration consultants based in India who operate in association with fraudulent partners in Canada are a major challenge for the immigration system of Canada. This is as per the authorities in Canada.

These fake consultants tend to cheat thousands of intending migrants each year charging as high as $30,000 per person and breaching the law themselves and involving others as well. Such fraudsters are found in high numbers in the Indian state of Punjab.
