Being on these forums for as long as I have, sometimes I come across a one-liner that is just fantastic. These are normally short statements that change your perception, give you an "AHA" Oprah moment or make you laugh out loud. More often it's a dose of brutal honesty (and reality) that new posters don't want to hear but is, nevertheless, the TRUTH. I just have to give a shout out to Baloo who just told someone: Deal with it. It gets worse before it gets better. HOW TRUE! And sadly funny. I was thinking that some of these one-liners could real help new people coming onto the forums. When you deal with immigration, especially family class, you have to thicken up your skin and be in it for the long haul. Fair or not, that's the way it is. It might be worthwhile for others to post some of these one-liners that struck them as funny (we all need to laugh sometimes) or just as a simple truth that opened their eyes to how this system works. It could even be a short statement about what you've learned about this process since you started or finished. Keep it truthful because the purpose is to help people deal with the reality of immigration, not what YOU WANT to be reality. And the funnier the better. I also love what PMM has written at least a thousand times over the years. "When in doubt, read the instructions."Poor guy must get sick of saying that!

rjessome I was just thinking of how brilliant and true that was of what Baloo posted. Really puts the point out there. This journey is a tough one but worth while.

I agree with you all! There is no way to sugar-coat it. I haven't even started yet and thanks to you all, I know how very hard it is going to suck and for approximately how long too. Thanks for your honesty - I'd rather know the truth. Good luck to all!

I've got another that didn't come from this forum but is worth sharing. A few years back when I was studying immigration law, I had this really smart and really funny instructor. One of my first classes was a general overview of immigration law talking about history of immigration law, who makes the laws, various levels of authority, etc. I was sponsoring my husband at the time and was royally PO'd at the whole process (note to self: study immigration law FIRST and then sponsor). I asked this instructor some question about fairness. He stared at me for a few seconds and said in a fake accent, "Ah grasshopper, you are very young. Clear your mind of all thoughts of fairness. Here, in immigration law, we deal with rules and regulations and exceptions to rules and regulations. We do not deal with fairness."It was really funny at the time (you would understand if you have ever seen the TV show and my chubby little white-faced, coke-bottle-glasses-wearing instructor) and a little over exaggerated but it changed my whole perception of how I viewed immigration law. I no longer consider what I believe to be fair. I look for ways of applying the Act, Regulations, procedural rules and caselaw to get the outcome I want. Always staying within the law of course!

Here's a good one that I just saw: "My wife's file is a B file. Maybe it means you get a "F" for "forward, while our file (with no action for more than a year) means "backward". LOL

You have a good point rjessome about thickening the skin in preparation for this process, but I try to go easy on the newbies and offer a gentler healthy dose of reality (maybe it's just my southern belle upbringing, lol!). It probably takes a few weeks for some to realize we have their best interests at heart even when we post something they aren't ready to hear.
I also noted Baloo's comment with an "oh my" when reading that thread.
PMM in the "Ring taxed while traveling" thread offers a few quotables as well..."its called smuggling" and "Come on, 'invasion of privacy'? You bought a ring, it was brought into Canada without it being declared or duty and taxes being paid."
And I offer humoured kudos to Canadianwoman for her extreme diplomacy with her first post in the "Gay Family Class Sponsorship" thread for her very understated comment "This may be a problem."
Cheers!
