Hi Leon and Any other memebers living in Calgary.What are the best areas to live in Calgary? Low or no crime rate?

Best thing to do when you look for apartments in Calgary same as with any other place is look at the neighbourhood, talk to the neighbours but especially talk to the people who work in the gas stations/convenience stores around there. They have to go home after their late shift is over and they can tell you how safe they feel or if they are getting robbed all the time.
Even the people who live there may have different perception of how safe the neighbourhood is. For example, I lived somewhere in Edmonton that I never had any trouble but then I met a woman who lived there too who said she was robbed 3 times in one year so ask the women especially how safe they feel.

Calgary is by-and-large a safe city...
NE is a little unsafe from getting robbed perspective, but if you are in a car, then no worries... it's cheap!!!
SW is very safe and up market, but, then it's a little expensive
SE doesn't have great residential areas..
NW is a good mix and reasonable.
I will not recommend downtown, not that it's not safe, but just becasue there are a lot of bums and too much noise pollution at night.
in south, you can look for apartments on the McLeod trail. great CT bus service and everything is near by. or Elbow Drive. They'se reasonable and safe areas
overall, Calgary is a nice city... and the Banff's at 1.5 hr drive... so, weekends are fun <summer or winter> ...

Yeah I lived in Alpharetta Ga too and it was Crazy I tried to catch the bus a few times just for side seeing and ended up giving up because the Bus system is very very unreliable. How ever from what l seem to learn about Calgary it seems their bus system is reliable. Hey guys thanks for the infor about Calgary that's a good step towards looking for place to live in the cleanest city in the world.

I have only experience with the bus system in Edmonton, not Calgary but no reason to think it would work any worse. The bus system in Edmonton anyway is pretty decent. You can get to most areas you need to get to and it's pretty reliable unless it's snows a lot but taking a bus compared to having your own car, you will always be slower on the bus. They rarely go directly where you want them to and even when they do, there is the question of frequency of trips. If you are planning on taking a bus, that will also affect where you live. You will need an apartment that is on a major bus route. A few bus routes would be better. That will also affect where you work too since your workplace also needs to be on a bus route.

I have visited Calgary (for 3 or 4 days) and it was like any other city in the US. There were buses and light rail too. It should not be a problem if your workplace was downtown.

I too lived in Alpharetta, GA on Windward Parkway. There was no bus service there just one from near the GA400. I definately dont expect a service of that kinda in Calgary/Edmonton. I hope it is something better like Chicago or NJ.

Even i was thinking of doing the same but after googling i found out that taking car from USA would be bit expensive than buying a car in Canada. |
