order your CAIPS notes, have the sponsor apply for CAIPS notes(faster). background checks depends on your nationality (if you were coming from a "certain" country),also depends on how many countries you visited/indicated on the application or if you are serving in the military/ex-servicemen or your name seem to be the same of a convicted criminal.

Hope this helps.

Hiring a lawyer now won't help - you either get a lawyer at the beginning before you submit the application, or after a rejection when you want to appeal. They can't help you while you are waiting.

Order your CAIPS notes, as others have suggested. The notes might say what the delay is from.

The sponsor could also try contacting her MP. Sometimes they are helpful - if they can't speed up processing, they can sometimes at least find out what the problem is. Some MPs don't know what to do, or won't help, so it just depends on what area the sponsor lives in if contacting the MP will be useful or not.

I am sending the CAIPS forms by email and my wife already make the attempt to contact the MP so lets see what happens.

David26: there you go! also, I found from other thread that it also depends on how fast other countries reply on the Visa office security checks inquiry.
