So I am working on my B4 as I am crossing our items over the border in under 3 weeks. I am a returning Canadian resident/citizen - I haven't lived in Canada for 16 years. I am not permanently moving until my spouse gets his PR but our stuff is going on our parent's moving truck which saves us money.

I have a spreadsheet with every box and the items inside. About 150 items.

I kind of made general categories for the B4 and estimated the value. For example: household furniture $4,000. kitchen appliances and supplies: $1,200. Children's items $500

We don't have anything expensive, our car is less than $10,000. No jewelry - do I have to claim my engagement and wedding rings if they are on my finger?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, claim engagement ring and wedding ring too.   It will help avoid future questions too (keep the b4 and if anyone ever wonders if they are in Canada legally you can point to your B4).

Congrats!

Correct (assuming you've been a non-resident of Canada for at least one year) - just attach photos of them to your B4 (you can take them yourself and print them on your computer) and list them on the b4 form.

Ok thanks. What else do I need to take photos of? Most of our stuff is already packed.

Photos are only needed for jewelry, and for electronics you should list model and serial numbers.  Everything else you can describe and list approx value (by category even - e.g., clothing $xx, books $xx, linens $xx).

Declare everything when you move. There's no tax on anything except items worth more than $10,000.

Hi everyone,

there was another thread about the B4 but i didnt understand and i didnt think about it but now im seeing this and im wondering what is this??? when my husband will come, he is just going to have 2 big luggage and a handbag. I know when you come back after a trip, you fill the declaration..something like that in the plane or while waiting before arriving at the customs... . Does my husband only need to fill that or there is something else...

thank you in advance!!

Is he landing or moving back? I think either way he needs a b4 PLUS the form they give you on the plane.

No. He needs a B4. If he doesn't bring one with him then he has to go to secondary customs and the landing process will take longer.
