I haev been searching for answers about healthcare in Ontario. My girlfriend and I have been living here in Toronto for about 10 months on working visas(2 years) but becasue it is listed as "open" on the visa and doesnt staet an employer we are nto entitled to healthcare. We recently found out that my girlfriend is pregnant and was hoping to stay in Canada to have the baby if we can sort out our Health care. Aparently to recieve health care a visa must state an employer. How is it best to get this dealt with? Can we simply cross the border and present our letters of employment? Would we have apply for a different type of visa? This is pretty urgent as it will help us decide if we shodul return to Australia to have this. We have considered private health insurance but given she is already pregnant am sure it will be expensive. Ay help??

Call CIC and ask what you can do.  I am sure you are not the first people with this problem.  You can also try calling OHIP and asking them.  Maybe you can change your work permits to that specific employer.
