I am staying with my partner in Canada right now. I tried to set up a joint bank account today and brought my license and passport and everything with me. However, I don't think they will accept me since I don't have a SIN and am not a Permanent Resident.

Any ideas on what we can own jointly?
Something preferably free or affordable.

He isn't a student, he doesn't have life insurance, own his own home, rent out anything, and doesn't have a medical or dental plan.

I am out of ideas. We need serious help.

You don't "have" to own anything together.  My suggestion would be a cheap life insurance policy (good to have anyway) with you as the beneficiary.  Others who are or have been through common law might have better suggestions.
