Unless they extend the status in question for more than 6 months, which might lead to 'void' extension lasting longer than the current reset. Or would they take into account the new last entry and extend from the date it expires?

Meh, you guys will have the whole PR done in the next 6 months anyway, who cares Cheesy

I would need to check, but I think the length of the extension is not looked at, - it is void because they left Canada.

No no, I agree, but you said "it is no longer relevant" since they restarted the 6 month period - yet if the extension was to be granted for longer than that, it might become relevant at some point.

I don't think we disagree, I am not making myself clear.
Even if the extension was granted for a year, it would be irrelevant as it is likely to be void anyway, because they left Canada.

As I said, I need to check - at the moment you have my opinion.

And I think your opinion is absolutely correct; however, I can all too easily imagine bureaucratic confusion/lack of communication between offices which could lead to having OP's status reset to last entry + 6 months, extension being granted anyway (but for either an earlier or a later date), and the kind of mess that could occur if it was suddenly important to prove OP's status or its exact expiry date.

So for that reason I wouldn't assume anything happens automatically when dealing with CIC, and I'd call and check on/withdraw extension application as needed.

One more question.... Should old, expired work permits be removed before traveling outside of Canada (they are currently stapled in my passport) or should they stay in there, even though I am now in Canada on a visitor permit?
